After stepping down from the prestigious position of being the preceptor of Mohun Bagan, as the team suffered a shock defeat despite their numerical superiority at the hands of Chennai City in their home ground, Sanjoy Sen has finally joined as the new coach of all the junior ATK teams.

The communiqué would come out anytime soon, as the seasoned coach in the circuit of Indian football will venture for the first time into an ISL based franchise.

Sanjoy Sen started his coaching career way back in 2010 when he took over the reins of Prayag United S.C. The team’s performance did exhibit promise as they came back from the bottom three to finish 8th in the fray out of 14 teams.

He was then appointed as the new head coach of Mohamedan Sporting for the remainder of 2012/13 season. The team exuded some stellar performance under his tutelage and won promotion to the I-League first division.

He already had won a name for himself by then. He renounced from the position after the season was over due to his family issues. However, he was again offered the same position by the club and the club came out triumphant in the Durand Cup and in the IFA Shield. However, post that he confirmed his renunciation from the club.

Mohun Bagan appointed him as their coach on 8th December 2014 and the team sailed hammer and tongs under his tutelage. He had excellent players at his disposal and he notched up the prestigious I-League with the club in 2014-15 and the Federation Cup in 2015-16.

He was deemed as one of the best coaches of India by then and his unparalleled success against stalwarts and his imperious dominance in the derbies, made him loved amongst the Mohun Bagan fans.

However, as coaches in India never had a good fate, he suffered the same despite his bygone glories. Coming back from a bypass surgery and a broken arm surgery, he still clung on to the club and guided them to victories over giants like Bengaluru FC and Aizawl.

It will be interesting to see that how he fares as the coach for the junior teams of ATK. With interminable youth at his disposal, the team will surely look for some momentum, with his experience and his strategies at their helm. Given his previous success with Prayag and Mohamedan, his new approach will be the one to watch for.

Is Teddy Sheringham the best choice for ATK this season?
