Pune to Grab All-Three versus Delhi Tonight, says StatGuru: Head to Head

As ISL-4 is progressing towards its business closure, we’re  on the brink of an infectious second-leg fixture to be played between two unevenly matched teams in terms of the points table.

The bout will be played out between Delhi Dynamos, who has been abysmal this season and has been languishing at the eighth position in a fray of ten teams with 18 points in their kitty from 13 matches and a high-flying Pune City FC who is following the footsteps of Bengaluru to cruise to the playoffs.

A victory in today’s game will secure Pune’s berth in the semis and a draw would also almost surge them to the semis too, given the superior goal difference over Jamshedpur.

Delhi will be crossing their sword with Pune, coming from three recent victories and two draws. Their panache in the last five games has been distended with some impeccable football from its army. To add to their advantage, the game will be played out in their own backyard at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium where they have been undefeated in the last three games.

Pune, on the contrary, will be coming on the back of a drubbing at the hands of FC Goa. However, their away record has indeed been enthralling this season. They have recorded six victories and have drawn once, losing just one of their away encounters so far.

Given this way of proceedings, the encounter poised for tonight will be a lip-smacking, rip-roaring contest as we will have some top-notch players pitted against each other. With the likes of Gabriel Cichero, Jeroen Lumu, Kalu Uche, Chhangte, Edu Moya and several other menacing players in the ranks of Delhi, Pune will not have a walk in the park.

Jeroen Lumu and Kalu Uche are relishing the form of their life as they have been on a scoring spree for the Capital of India in the last few matches. They have been very well supported by Setyasen Singh on the right and Vinit Rai on the left.

Setyasen has got some tremendous speed up his sleeve and his harrowing runs will need to be stymied if Pune wants to surge ahead. Given his interminable stamina and his physical hardiness, this strapping lad also has a prowess of running on to his markers thereby challenging them head-on and speeding past them to belt in delectable crosses for Mirabaje and Kalu to slot home.

Vinit Rai, on the contrary, will look forward to stretching the left wing to broaden the field for the hosts to make it an uphill task for Pune to sit back and relax.

The sole weakling in Pune’s outfit based on its recent matches will be Xabier, their custodian. Xabier has been extremely sloppy and shaky at the same time. Portugal will probably vest his trust on veteran Arnab Das Sharma for this dead rubber in order to salvage some prestige or he may even try Albino Gomes, who was a surprise package in the previous year’s I-League as he was the last guard of the fortress for champions, Aizawl.

Pune boasts of players like Marcelino, Rafa, Emiliano Alfaro and even players like Adil Khan in their Indian quota who has been absolutely phenomenal across the entire season. Adil Khan has been deployed in an attacking medio role and has been extremely successful with his runs and has even scored on a couple of occasions.

Alfaro and Marcelino’s two-pronged threat up front laced with their creative flair makes them a bane for any team on any given day. Marcelino has a knack for unleashing powerful meaty pile-drivers down from anywhere near the box and Emiliano is capable of flipping in anything that comes his way in the box.

With the likes of Sarthak Golui and Pawan Kumar in their rearguard, who blends experience with their towering stature, Delhi will have to do a lot more than simply testing the Pune goal with long-rangers.

Vishal Kaith has also been a consistent sensation under the woodwork. Being an instant hit after being fielded by Shillong Lajong, this strapping lad has been an unbreakable bulwark under the woodwork for Pune. So whatever comes out of that defence will be handled by Kaith.

Jersey will wager their money on Pune for tonight’s game despite their recent low after they suffered a setback to a low-lying FC Goa. The primary reason for this wager will be Pune’s hunger to surge ahead to the semis. It will also be laced with their recent imperious form barring the last match.

Be prepared for this encounter along the road to glory for these two ISL giants. Match kicks-off at 8:00 p.m at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Stay tuned to Jersey for more updates.

Who will win tonight?
Delhi Dynamos
FC Pune City
