Mumbai City trample on Kerala Blasters in a 6-0 Thriller - The Bullet Points

Nitish Bhan  |  ISL-5  |  1 Month Ago

Jorge Costa Mumbai City was just too good for Kerala Blasters in the ISL who were outclassed in a game that ended 6-1 in favour of the home side. The game saw Modou Sougou netting a record four times in the history of ISL, with Bastos and Mirabaje scoring a piece too. On the other hand, Doungel pulled off a consolation goal for the visitors to leave a big question mark on performance and management for the most expensive side in the ISL. Here are the Top-3 talking points from the match.

Sougou flexed his muscles

The Senegalese striker scored quadruple times for the home side to redeclare his presence in the tournament. He has been an eminent firepower in the ranks of Mumbai, right through the current Indian Super League campaign and this performance has been special throughout. Sougou became the first player ever to score a four goals haul in the space of 90 minutes.

Zakeer ditched Kerala

At the edge of the half time interval, Blasters’ midfielder Zakeer Mundampara picked up a second yellow in quick succession to his first and had to leave the pitch. With a man down, Kerala’s minimal resistance fizzled out and Mumbai punished them mercilessly.

Title Challenge by Mumbai?

Mumbai City FC has made its intentions clear as they trounced Kerala by a whopping five-goal margin. Mumbai outplayed Kerala in terms of possession, shots, and outmuscled them with sheer brilliance on the field. They have now moved up to the second spot and will look forward to continuing their run, pinning their hopes on Sougou and Goian to make an early entry into the Top-4.
