It was a big win for Barcelona in the transfer market as they snapped up one of the hottest midfielders in the market. The 21-year-old Dutch ace signed a contract for five years and is set to be presented in the Camp Nou very soon.

De Jong has already become a crowd favourite among the Catalan fans for his playing style and they expect the midfielder to seamlessly gel in the Barca midfield.

There was intense competition for signing the Dutch midfielder with PSG, Bayern and City losing out to the Catalans. While City was put off by the astronomical price tag, the Ajax midfielder has turned down PSG despite the financial gains he would have received for joining the French side.

The Barcelona Club president himself was involved in securing the deal after flying multiple times to the Netherlands to finalize the contract worth 75 Million Euros which could go up to 86 Million Euros with add-ons.

He joined the elite list of Dutch players who made their mark in the Camp Nou including the likes of Koeman, Kluivert and Cruyff himself. Barcelona has an already impressive midfield and also have Puig and Alena knocking on the doors of the first team. This signing has left the fans elated especially after a puzzling deal for Prince Boateng.

Barcelona now has one of the most enviable midfield in European football and will be vying for another treble with their squad depth in the upcoming season

This will also be an act of sweet revenge for the Catalans who have been outdone by PSG in the transfer market in the recent past. PSG are desperate for a midfielder after injuries and contract situations and this will be a body blow for the French champions.
