Modou Sougou hattrick inspires Mumbai City to thump ATK at home as Jorge Costa's men reach the playoffs with the dominating win.

The visitors had a stronghold on the game right from the start as Arnold Issoko and Modou Sogou were connecting well and terrorizing the ATK defence. Steve Coppell's men hardly created any chances in the first exchanges on the game.

It was from a swift counter-attack which changes the course of the game as  Pranjal Bhumij's searching ball forward was latched on by Sougou, as the Portugues marksman dribbled past Arnab Mondal and Andre Bikey and finally slotted it past ATK custodian, Arindam Bhattacharya.

The goal galvanised the match as ATK pushed forward in search of a goal. Eugenson Lyngdoh, who made his first start of the season found himself in space and his shot from distance was kept out by Amrinder Singh with aplomb. Pushing forward resulted in more space at the back for the visitors as Souvik Chakroborti 's long ball sent Arnold Issoko marching forward in the left flank. The winger dribbled past Ricky and his pinpoint delivery resulted in a second goal for Sougou as the visitors went into halftime with a handsome lead.

The Islanders had an even better start to their second half as players like Paulo Machado and Bhumij were getting in the pockets of space and allowing the likes of Issoko and Sougou to run behind the defenders. The home team succumbed under continuous pressure as Paulo Machado's defence-splitting pass laid the way for Sougou as he ran past the defenders and completed his hattrick.

The home came into the fray again when Pritam Kotal's dangerous cross found Balwant Singh inside the box, as he headed the ball with aplomb. However, Amrinder came again came up with another top save. ATK pulled one back when Kotal's searching ball was headed home by Andre Bikey on the 67th minute.  kalu Uche missed a golden opportunity late as ATK had too much to do in the second half to turn the tie.

This defeat ends all hopes for the two-time champions to reach the playoffs. ATK have now failed to qualify for the playoffs in successive seasons. On the other hand, the Islanders with this victory seal their playoff spot this season.
