CK Vineeth lashes Mumbai FC with a hat-trick to sit on top of the table

No wonder Bengaluru’s new talisman CK Vineeth scored as many as three goals to shoot his side on top of the points table after the third round in the Hero I-League. The 28 year old, who’s been in a prolific form since the AFC Cup, not only scored his first hattrick, but the first ever hattrick for the Blues as well. The match ended with 3-0 at the scoresheet, sending Mumbai FC home pointless.

Bengaluru started off as expected with Bengaluru playing all attacking football through CK, Udanta and the captain Chhetri. Bengaluru has also become the team to have the most possession in the league with just three matches played. They made several forays into the rival citadel, but to no avail as Mumbai were equally good at dealing with the regular onslaughts. But as the game progressed, it was the home side that started looking fierce as they launched attack after attack.

Bengaluru opened the scoring a couple of minutes before going into the half time interval through Vineeth, well assisted by Cameroon Watson. It took him just 12 minutes into the second half when he directed Khabra’s beautiful cross into the net, before Khabra again put a through ball into the box in the 65th minute for Vineeth to score one more time to seal the game.

Though the Kerala-boy missed his and his side’s fourth for the day by inches, but the crowd and his side were complacent with the team’s performance to mark another week on the high.

Bengaluru with these three points are now on top of the table, leading Mohun Bagan by goal difference. The Blues will now play the Kolkata juggernautts East Bengal on Sunday.
