Bengaluru FC faces favourites Mohun Bagan in the Federation Cup Final

Scene Setter...

14-time overall and the defending champions of the Federation Cup, Mohun Bagan are looking forward to restore their supremacy in the Cup and book an AFC Cup berth for the next season when they meet Bengaluru in the final on Sunday. They will moreover be aiming to bury the disappointment of the I-League - they had touched and let the ultimatum go away from their hands.

Bagan has faced Bengaluru FC five times till now this season with their last meeting resulting in 3-1 win in favour of Green and Maroon Brigade during AFC Cup Group league fixture. Before that, they drew 1-1 in a group league fixture of the Federation Cup.

In the Semis of the Federation Cup, Bengaluru FC evaded a late challenge by Aizawl FC to win their semi-final bout by a lone goal to nil, unlike Mohun Bagan registered a cake-walk 2-0 win over local rivals East Bengal to qualify for the final.

From the Head Coach...

Bengaluru FC head coach Alberto Roca is quite aware of Bagan’s attacking prowess and was quite vocal of how Mohun Bagan are clear favourites to lift the title in the official pre-match press conference. He has highly praised Bagan Attack and did mention team's Defence as a stable unit which brings a perfect balance in the team to manage and a game to enjoy. We might even get to see some one-way traffic movements in the final as Mohun Bagan are clearly unstoppable these days. Sony Norde, Katsumi Yusa, Balwant Singh and Darryl Duffy are the threats which Bengaluru FC are thinking upon to face in the Final. They have been in some form in the recent games and all four of them have managed to score during the competition.

Mohun Bagan’s Head Coach Sanjoy Sen was more straight-forward by proclaiming that the team is not aiming anything less than claiming the title. He has assured the fans that they are cent percent prepared to give their best to win the trophy. Facing Bengaluru FC time and again has been a regular routine for Bagan this season which according to Sen has ironically been both advantageous and disadvantageous for them. This led Bengaluru FC to study Bagan players and analyse their game and vice-versa. Though, Sen is hopeful of a competitive final despite of so regular made-for-each-other meetings.

What's the Team News..?

Well, what has arrived as a head ache for the blues along with fever is the missing of the services of skipper Sunil Chhetri, and midfielder Cameron Watson, who are suspended for tomorrow’s final. Sanjoy Sen has clarified that his side is free from any injury concerns and is armed with his full force to play the final.

Well, whatever happens tomorrow, one thing is sure that the fans will have the maximum dosage of masaledar football to remember for months. So sit tight in front of the tele and spend the 90 minutes at the edge of your couch.
