After choosing to retain no one from the previous season, the Dynamos decided to build their squad from scratch in the player draft of the 2017 edition of the Indian Super League. They have locked in the services of the twenty-nine year old Brazilian midfielder, Paulinho Dias as their first overseas recruit of the season.

Dias’ control and movement, both on and off the ball, and his playmaking skills make him a great threat for the strongest of opposing defences. Along with making a strong impact in the midfield of the Dynamos’ team, the Brazilian could be a contender for the dazzling Golden Boot award thanks to his vision to find the back of the net, along with his expertise in the midfield. Perhaps he could fill the void of Marcelinho for the Delhi based franchise; Leite scored ten goals in his fifteen appearances for his former club and bagged last season’s Golden Boot as well.

An alumni of the Cruzeiro Academy, Paulinho was last plying his trade with Joinville Esporte Clubein Serie B. Before signing with the Rabbits, the Brazilian was a part of Chapecoense – the club who recently lost their team to a plane crash ahead of their final match of the Copa Sudamericana.

The twenty-nine year old’s signing with his new team marks a reunion with head coach Miguel Angel Portugal who had in the beginning contracted him back in 2014 at their former club, Atletico Paranaense. It will be exciting to watch the midfielder be a success after reuniting with his former coach, Portugal. Paulinho possesses decent long range shots on his list of attributes and he will be expected to conquer the holding role in the Delhi Dynamo’s midfield.

"I'm very excited to welcome Paulinho to the club. This is a player the coach immediately identified when he came aboard and I'm sure he can be a defensive anchor in our midfield. He will make his mark in the ISL like the other Atletico Paranaense players who came before him!" Delhi Dynamos Director, Rohan Sharma said.
