Chennayin FC confirmed the signing of attacking Midfielder, Jaime Gavilan Martinez yesterday through their social media platform. The former Valencia youth product was an integral part of Atletico De Kolkata’s side of ISL 2015 and featured against Chennayin FC in the Semi-final legs. Jaime has 3 assists in 15 games to his credential in which he started off the bench in all.

Gavilan has a vast experience as a midfielder and can play as an attacking central midfielder/ box-to-box midfielder or as a defensive midfielder. His long range shots gained a lot of fame after he managed to put the Chennaiyin goalie under a lot of pressure through them. The 32-year old joined ISL in 2015 on the expiry of his contract at the South Korean club, Suwon FC.

Moving on from ISL, Gavilan returned back to South Korea for his second spell with Suwon FC and after spending two seasons with them, he’s back again to India for the action.

Gavilan has represented Spain in the U-16, U-19 category and has played a hand in several competitions like Euros. He was also a notable member of the FIFA 2003 U-20 World Cup team that fell short of luck to claim the trophy and ended as the Runners up.

Known as a Valencia player for four years, Gavilan spent most of this period on loan with Getafe and Tenerife. In Valencia, Gavilan featured in the European games like the UEFA Europa League.

This description suggest that the Spaniard would be a great addition to the team and would bring a new dimension to Chennaiyin’s frail looking attacking options. The team at Jersey wishes Gavilan and Chennaiyin all the very best for the season.
