FC Pune City is assembling their squad inch by inch to hammer out a structure strong enough to stand tall as a title contender for the upcoming Indian Super League. Coach Antonio Lopez Habas has failed to reach the Play-Offs for the first time last season and is not keeping any stone unturned to build a team worthy of fighting against the nine others, including two new. They have advanced a step forward in the process of building their army as they have added another armour to their armament. The Stallions have acquired the signature of Croatian Central Back Damir Grgic for the upcoming ISL. Damir will be joining Jonatan Lucca, Rafael Lopez, Marcelinho, Marcos Tebar and Emiliano Alfaro as their latest foreign signing.

As said by the club, 25-year-old Damir is a dictatorial defender, clear with his aim and objectives, solid in the back! FC Pune City CEO Gaurav Modwel said, “Damir comes to us on back of a very good season in Slovenia. He is strong and powerful and will offer a towering presence at the back. He is comfortable passing and tackling with both feet and will complement Rafa perfectly.”

The German-born Croatian started his youth career with the Croatian first division club NK Karlovac in 2010. In the very next season, Damir secured a move to German club VfL Bochum. Since 2015, Grgic has been playing for NK Rudar Velenje in the in Slovenian PrvaLiga.

“Coming to India and playing for FC Pune City in the Indian Super League is an exciting prospect for me. Having played in Europe for most of my professional career, this will be a new challenge for me,” expressed Damir.

Having invested in Youth during the ISL Drafting, Habas has started placing his pieces on the chess board by his summer moves. The signings of Marcelinho and Alfaro has put an end to Pune's Goal-Scoring problems; Tebar and Lucca will be taking over reigns of the midfield. With Grgic joining Lopez as their another defensive recruitment, Pune has set their sight to lift the maiden Indian Super League title!
