The 29 year-old midfielder who plied his trade at Chennai City FC last season in the I-League will now be joining ATK in the ISL for the fourth edition of this competition. Darren Caldeira will be looking to add some much needed depth in the already talented midfield of ATK.

Caldeira started his started his youth career at Mahindra United FC after which he moved to the much acclaimed youth academy of Valencia C.F. He was chosen by the Mahindra United FC academy to go to the La Liga side’s youth set up to train with the U-18 players. He spent a year at Valencia’s academy and fast forward to 2011, he signed for the I-League side, Mumbai F.C where he’d go on to be their cult hero.

He also played for the new I-League entrants in 2013, Bengaluru FC, where he spent two seasons with them. After a short stint with Mumbai again, he re-signed with Bengaluru FC in 2016 on a four month deal. In 2017, Darren Caldeira was picked up by Chennai City FC, the new comers to the I-League. He featured for them in 8 games but was only able to pick a place in the starting line-up three times. He brought in some much needed experience to this new look Chennai City FC squad and inspired them to grab a federation cup spot in their inaugural season in the I-League.

If there’s one thing that’s to feel bad about Caldeira’s career is the fact that he never reached the heights that he was touted to reach during his teenage. There wasn’t another player like him and somewhere in the middle his growth seemed to have stalled to quite an extent. Caldeira will be looking to impress his new audience at Kolkata and Jersey wishes him nothing but the best for this new adventure with ATK.
