A club that’s positioned itself well in the I-League after playing just one season has slowly but surely caught everyone’s attention with some of their signings in this window. Chennai City FC (CCFC) who finished 8th in the last edition of the I-League played some beautiful free flowing attacking football under their coach Soundarrajan and had a very good track record at home which helped them finish with much applause in their debut season in the tournament.

CCFC will now be looking to build up on the momentum and having lost big names like Abhishek Das and their Brazilian striker Charles to Mohun Bagan and East Bengal respectively, it looks like they have coped well with their recent flurry of announcements that they have made on twitter. CCFC has made nine signings in this window alone and we will now be looking at their top 3 signings.

#3 Ildar Amirov (Striker, 29)

Hailing from Kyrgyzstan, Amirov is a strong centre-forward who excels in hold-up play. If there are any questions about him acclimatising to the I-League, there needn’t be as he has featured for East Bengal in the previous edition of the I-League.  Amirov brings with him a plethora of experience and having been played for the national team for more than 10 years, the kind of knowledge that he can impart on these youngsters will go a long way in helping them shape their careers and will also help the team during the course of the season. Having lost Charles to East Bengal, Amirov comes as a good addition to this young and fresh CCFC squad.

#2 Lucas Luis Scalon (Defender, 21)

Part of the Chapecoesnse club’s roster, Luis Scalon spent 6 years at the club. His 4 years were spent at the club’s academy and the final two years he was a part of the first team squad. Being just 21 years old, Luis Scalon has the best days ahead of him and what better country to kick start your career than India. Luis Scalon is a central defender who possesses good ball playing ability. This means that he acts as a constant threat to the opposition defence and one can expect balls to be launched to the strikers. Luis Scalon will be crucial to this side in launching counter attacks. A defender possessing flair these days are hard to find and CCFC happen to have gotten hold of one of these players who excel at it. Scalon will look to hit the ground running at his new club and CCFC will be looking to bank on their defence, as it was one of their biggest strengths last year with Celestine and Ravanan forming a great Centre-back partnership. Standing tall at 6ft, Luis Scalon will be a dominating presence inside the box, be it defensively or while attacking the corners.

#1 Jean-Michael “Junior” Joachim (Striker, 25)

CCFC’s best signing this year has to be Junior Joachim. A forward who can play all the three places in the front line, comes in as a massive value addition to the team. One of CCFC’s biggest strengths last year were their two wingers Nandakumar and Soosairaj, having signed someone who can match their pace and play them through on goal, Joachim stands out of all the signings. Having played in England and France, Joachim has faced a variety of defenders and will be looking to add some exciting attacking flair to this new look Chennai squad. CCFC lacked in the final third in the 16/17 season and with his addition to the squad, a big void looks to have been filled. Could he possibly be the final piece of the puzzle?

CCFC has made a great statement with these signings. They’ve also acquired a couple of U-23 players from Tamil Nadu who will be looking to breakout into the limelight given the chance. The club is staying true to its roots by helping these players from Tamil Nadu propel themselves up the footballing ladder in India, having said that, CCFC look like a force to be reckoned with and will definitely be gunning for the title.
