The Big-2 of Indian football, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal are set to play the Pre-Season friendlies with the top ISL clubs. The news was confirmed by the club officials and are expected to take the field after 28th October. The Mohan Bagan fixtures are expected to be played on the away venue, while East Bengal will play a match each outside and in Kolkata.

While many fans fancied the battle between the top ISL and I-league clubs, this news has sent an air of excitement among the club supporters. According to reports, Mohun Bagan is expected to play the likes of FC Goa and FC Pune City on 11th and 14th November respectively, while East Bengal’s affair with FC Mumbai  City will take place on 10th November. These dates are however just tentatively fixed and are subject to change based on numerous factors.

Not only the Big-2s of Kolkata, the big-2s of North-India, Minerva Punjab and Delhi Dynamos have also confirmed that they’ll play a friendly at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on 15th November. The newly promoted club from Imphal, Neroca FC has already started selling the tickets for the first leg of their fixture with Northeast United FC as they gear up at the Khuman Lampak Stadium on 22nd of this month.

There are also speculations from the latest entrants of the ISL, Jamshedpur FC that they too are in talks with East Bengal for a friendly. This fixture importantly will be a major boost for the ISL team as Jamshedpur homes a major population which supports the Red and Gold in the I-League.

These pre-season fixtures will not only help the clubs to analyse their levels into the tournament but will be a true feast for the fans of Indian football. For a long time, the debate concerning the ISL and I-League has metamorphosed into a national discussion and so these fixtures will act as the bridge between the two leagues. This is also be seen as a uniform fixture to attract the sponsors and investors going forward.

The 4th edition of the Indian Super League is scheduled to start on 17th November with two more clubs joining in—Bengaluru FC and Jamshedpur FC. This season makes it the 2nd version of the star-studded event that the fans are used to, as this time the league will be a five months long affair besides the FSDL regulation of a mandatory brand ambassador. Fans of some of the clubs will also have to live disappointment as only a few clubs are playing marquees in their squad.
